We dumped out Time Warner Cable this week in exchange for Netflix. Most of our favorite TV shows are viewable online these days and Netflix can keep our movie cravings satisfied. Jared set up the Xbox to play the Netflix instant view catalog. I also discovered last night that Netflix is apparently partnered up with Starz so now we can see all of the current Starz catalog. YAY! More efficient budgeting FTW!

My enabling skills are intact. I have totally hooked Rhoni on Spartacus: Blood and Sand. She was not happy when I told her we dumped the cable but the blow was severely lessened when I reassured her that she could still see up-to-date episodes of Spartacus. I've also gotten Jared hooked on Farscape and I am insisting he watch The Greatest American Hero after that.

I just got done watching Bubba Ho-Tep. I adore Bruce Campbell! Next up: Killer Klownz from Outer Space.

We're stuck here in the UK. Whatever we want to watch, whether it's on-demand online or TV scheduled, we have to have a licence as well. This started out as the way to pay the BBC for its programming instead of having adverts but now appears to be a pointless tax that allows for mega-bucks salaries to the top brass and crap programs on the TV. Now on the BBC I only watch the motorsport, the occasional documentary and read the website. I'd prefer to pay for what I watch, a flat rate per series, then I could avoid the crap stuff completely and watch what I want, when I want online. I object virulently that my money is being used to fund reality TV and soap operas, neither of which I watch and both of which I find totally repulsive.

It would be great to be able to do that, but we're stuck with the same problem as rainbowchazer. Can't stand reality shows or soaps either. ~l~ In fact we barely watch any tv, but for the two or three programmes that occasionally air that we *do* enjoy, we're charged over the odds for a license to be able to watch them. :\

Is there a service in the UK that is similar to Netflix? I had no idea TV was like that over there.

Not so far as I'm aware. The nearest we get is something like online on-demand viewing, which reminds me, I must look for the last F1 Grand Prix as I missed the coverage with being away.

But even for that you still need a licence as it classes as watching TV even if you're watching it online.

Go figure.
