I get that its a business. And LJ is certainly free to operate their business in whatever way they think will net them the fattest wallet.

That doesnt mean I have to sit back and passively allow them to stalk locked entries and gleefully brag about doing so, or to harass people who criticize what they feel is a bad decision about how their own content is distributed. Yes all sites have issues and a good site will deal with transgressions their staff makes. But in the cases I am most angry about? NOTHING has been done. And nothing will be done. For me, THAT is a far bigger issue than the whole LiveTwitFace issue is.

I worked for a lot of years in the restaurant industry when I was younger. And sure, there were plenty of times the staff would gather in the back and bitch/make fun of the difficult customers we didnt like. But we'd never, EVER do that to their face. And that is exactly what is happening right now in LJ. There is a right way and a wrong way for staff to present themselves in front of their customers. The fact that right now there are staff members openly harassing users and stalking them with creepy messages? That is the WRONG way to behave and LJ has done nothing to rein those people in.

At my job, I have access to thousands of people's medical information as well as their personal information. Sure, there's the potential that I could steal a few social security numbers or blab about who just got diagnosed with AIDS. The fact that I (and anyone who works in the medical field) can do those things doesnt make it ok to say "Oh well...that's how the medical field works. What can you do?" What I can do is take my business to a place where the staff have more self-control and ethical boundaries.

This guy has a great analogy about the privacy issue (http://news.livejournal.com/129284.html?thread=89617156#t89617156)

I'm not so naive to think that my locked entries arent seen by people not of my choosing. Yes, this IS the Internets. But I refuse to patronize a business that allows its staff to gleefully engage in behavior akin to that of a pack of wild dogs.
