I have never, ever liked my name. For as long as I can remember, whenever I'd hear someone call my name I've had an urge to yell out "That's not my name!!" because it just doesnt feel like ME.

Dydan is me and has been for a long time now. I'd much rather people call me by that name. I've been wanting to get it legally changed...I just need to cough up the money and time to get it done.

I've always disliked my name, as well. I have wanted to change it for years, but I cannot find anything else that fits either. :-(

I often think it would be better to wait until children are older to name them that way you can pick something that suits them. If you want to change yours you should save up and do it :)

There's definitely some wisdom in the Native American practice of giving a child a temporary name until they have had their right of passage into adulthood.

And I feel sorry for kids who have freaky names because of their parents' eccentricities. I'm looking at you, Zowie Bowie, Moon Unit Zappa, Kal-El Cage and Moxie Crimefighter Jillette!

I knew who my daughter was from about three months pregnant, I knew she was a girl and what she was going to be called and how I would shorten it. It was wierd but right :)

Funny thing is as "weird" as my name is.

I like it.

It's me. It's who I am, and not having it would probably make me a different person.

So I'm satisfied.

On of the best things I've ever done was to change my name. For the first time ever I finally feel like my name 'is' me. :D

I say go for it ... but do your research. Texas requires fingerprinting for the background check and the clerks don't always tell you since then they can let your request run out and charge you again to refile.

I have two sides - work where I use my given name and online, where I don't.

Very few online friends know my given name, no colleagues know my online name. And that's the way I intend to keep it.

If you're not happy with your given name and want to change it, make it ths year's goal to save the money to do so. I know several people who have achieved the peace they sought by doing that, and in so doing, cut themselves off from whatever it was that ailed them before which was attached to their original name.
